John Cleese has adopted the name of Archie Leach for his role of a lawyer in the MGM ''A Fish Called Wanda'' crime comedy he`s making in London with Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin. However, a few days after filming got under way in Colorado, fireworks erupted between Ferrer and director Elliot Silverstein and Ferrer was out-and Marvin finally recruited for the picture. Producer Harold Hecht wanted Kirk Douglas for the lead Douglas turned him down and Hecht hired Jose Ferrer.

None of the obituary stories about Lee Marvin last week noted that he was far from first choice for ''Cat Ballou''-the movie that made him a star and earned him an Oscar.

The group, which has been on the road with heavy-metal band Motley Crue this summer, definitely hasn`t gone unnoticed-promoters have been receiving letters from parents complaining about the rockers` on-stage sexual patter.
